“STONETASTIC” WINS PUMKIN PIE
ELMONT, N.Y. – Stonetastic took it to them from the start in the $100,000 Pumpkin Pie Stakes at Belmont Park on Sunday, leaving no doubt who was best as she hit the line 2 3/4 lengths in front in the six-furlong race for fillies and mares.

Stonetastic was sent from the gate by jockey Paco Lopez and outgunned Disco Chick for the early lead. Soon after clearing that rival, she was taken on from the outside by Momameamaria, a quick filly in her own right, who pressed her to the stretch. Stonetastic drew clear in upper stretch, and then turned back a second bid from Disco Chick.
Stonetastic set fractions of 22.04 seconds, 45.30, and 56.79. She completed six furlongs in 1:09.51.
A 5-year-old daughter of Mizzen Mast trained by Kelly Breen, Stonetastic paid $3.10. The win was her eighth from 21 starts and boosted her career earnings to $846,062.
Saharan was up late to take second from Disco Chick by a neck.
Stonetastic, a multiple Grade 2 winner owned by Stoneway Farm, is due to be bred next year.
“Now it’s a matter of trying to figure out if we race her one more time or not,” Breen said. “We wanted her to go out a winner and now we’ll talk it over and see what we want to do.”
If Stonetastic races again, it could be in either the $125,000 Garland of Roses at Aqueduct on Dec. 10 or the Grade 3 Sugar Swirl at Gulfstream Park on Dec. 17, according to Breen.
“It’s kind of bittersweet,” Breen said. “It’s getting to the end of a career of a really nice, talented filly. It’s been a lot of fun.”
