Hat Creek Racing’s Sweet Emma Rose took command right from the start and held on by a diminishing neck to capture the $60,000 Crank It Up Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday as jockey Paco Lopez booted home a record-tying seven winners, equaling the
mark he set just three weeks ago.

With Abel Lezcano in the irons, Sweet Emma Rose covered the 5 ½ furlongs over firm turf in 1:03 flat and paid $13.80, $6.40 and $4.80. Rogue Lady completed the $246 exacta and paid $16.20 and $7.80. It was another head back to Red Minx, who paid $4 to
show.
“The race was very tough,” said winning rider Abel Lezcano. “My horse went to the front and within a 1/16th was clearly in front. In the stretch she had enough to hold on.”
A 3-year-old filly by City Zip from the Deputy Minister mare Miss Moneypenny, Sweet Emma Rose sports a record of 3-2-0 from seven starts, good for earnings of $139,197.
Lopez, a 28-year-old native of Veracruz, Mexico, kicked off his record setting day by piloting odds-on favorite Big Dealer ($3.40) in the second. He then won the third race atop Exclusive Sarah ($3), the fourth with Souper Colossal ($5), the sixth with Peg’s Olympic Zoie ($9.60), the seventh with Long Blooming Rose ($6.60), the eighth with Logan Street ($3.60) and the 11th atop Mary N’ Eileen ($6.20).
The previous record of seven wins was set by Lopez just three weeks ago on May 17. Prior to that the record of six wins on a card was set by Walter Blum on June 9, 1961 and equaled by Chris Antley (July 30, 1984), Julie Krone (Aug. 19, 1987), Joe Bravo
(Aug. 31, 1994, May 18, 2002, Sept. 18, 2005 and Sept. 4, 2006), Jose Lezcano (June 22, 2008) and Eddie Castro (June 21, 2009).
