Paco Lopez Rides Stakes Triple To Jockey Of The Week Honors
With three stakes wins and strong weekly statistics, Paco Lopez was voted Jockeys’ Guild Jockey of the Week for Nov. 4-10, 2019. The award is voted on by a panel of experts for riding accomplishments by members of the Jockeys’ Guild, the organization which represents more than 950 riders in North America. Jockey of the Week is sponsored by FoundationDetox.com, an equine toxin remover.
One of three jockeys to win three stakes last week, Paco Lopez shined on Sunshine Millions Preview Day at Gulfstream Park West on Saturday.
Lopez had mounts in 10 races on the Saturday card at Gulfstream and won four, including three stakes. He began the card with a win in the first race, the $75,000 Millions Turf Preview Stakes with Galleon Mast ($5.80).
His next stakes win was later in the card in an upset as the winner of the $75,000 Millions Sprint Preview Stakes with Travy Boy ($45.80). Lopez’ third stakes win was with As Seen On Tv ($4.60) in the $75,000 Juvenile Sprint Stakes.
Lopez also won a claiming event on the card and finished second in two more stakes: the Millions Distaff with Heiressall and the Juvenile Fillies Turf with Our Little Jewel. In his 10 mounts for the day, he finished no worse than fourth.

Lopez tied for the leading rider by number of wins for the week with eight victories in 22 starts, and he finished in the money on 64% of his 22 mounts. In 2019, Lopez has won 240 of his 881 races and is 2,671 for 13,060 lifetime.
With $177,211 earned, Lopez was the second leading rider by stakes earnings, and he was seventh by overall earnings at $266,741. His earnings this year total $9,219,346 and he has earned over $94 million in his career to date.
