Florida-bred Beauty of the Sea Wins Second Consecutive Stakes With Andy Guest Score – FTBOA
Beauty of the Sea lived up to her 4-5 favoritism and won her second consecutive black type event with a straightforward victory in the $151,000 Andy Guest at Colonial Downs Sunday. The Andy Guest featured six fillies and mares, 3-years-old and older who went five-and-a-half furlongs on the turf.
Beauty of the Sea and jockey Paco Lopez broke fastest of all from post five but were quickly overtaken by Bosserati on the rail as they headed down the backstretch. Beauty of Sea would not let the quick Bosserati get away and stayed within a half-length through a quarter mile in :22.73 as Chambeau gave chase in third from between those two. Beauty of the Sea and Chambeau ranged up to test Bosserati midway on the turn with Bosserati and Beauty of the Sea hitting the top of the stretch heads apart as Chambeau dropped back.
Under little urging from Lopez, Beauty of the Sea put away Bosserati with a furlong to run then drew off to win by a length-and-a-half ahead of Hollywood Walk in second in a final time of 1:03.03 on the firm turf. Blame Day was another length-and-quarter back in third followed by Bosserati and Chambeau. Medalla Match did not finish and Love Appeals and Shoshanah were scratched.
Trained by Joe Orseno for Ironhorse Racing Stable LLC, Beauty of the Sea paid $3.60 to win.
It was the third career stakes victory for Beauty of the Sea, who won the $106,000 Goldwood in her last start on June 22 and the $104,000 Blue Sparkler last year, both at five-and-a-half furlongs on the Monmouth Park turf.
Beauty of the Sea has now won six of 11 career starts with two seconds and the $90,000 first place check increased her lifetime earnings to $334,410
