“A.P INDIAN” WINS DON LEVINE MEMORIAL

A. P. Indian completed a double-double on Saturday at Parx Racing by winning the $100,000 Donald LeVine Memorial for the second year in a row. In his prior start, on May 14 at Monmouth Park, A. P. Indian won the Decathlon Stakes for the second straight year.

A. P. Indian moved up to vie for the early lead in the seven-furlong LeVine inside Roxbury N Overton and Res Judicata. When Res Judicata dropped off the pace going to the far turn, A. P. Indian and Roxbury N Overton went at it hard on the far turn through a 44.80-second half-mile.

A. P. Indian got the best of Roxbury N Overton in the upper stretch and pulled away to win by three lengths. It was 1 1/4 lengths back from Roxbury N Overton to late-running Rockinn On Bye in third.

A. P. Indian, trained by Arnaud Delacour and ridden by Joe Bravo, paid $3.20 to win. He was timed in 1:22.30 after covering six furlongs in 1:09.42.

Owned and bred by the Green Lantern Stables, 6-year-old A. P. Indian is now 7 for 13 in his career. The son of Indian Charlie has earnings of $307,434.

A. P. Indian’s task was made easier when morning-line favorite Majestic Affair was scratched from the LeVine, leaving a field of five.

A. P. Indian crossed the finish line second in the Decathlon at Monmouth in his prior start, but was placed first after the winner, Delta Bluesman, was disqualified for causing interference on the backstretch.

The LeVine is named in memory of the longtime chief state steward at Parx.
