“Lochte” wins the G3 Tampa Bay

OLDSMAR, Fla. – Lochte drove to a short lead inside the final furlong and then narrowly turned
back a furious late charge from 24-1 shot Old Time Hockey to post a game head victory Saturday in
the Grade 3, $150,000 Tampa Bay Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs.

Under a heady ride by Paco Lopez, Lochte raced in close attendance to the solid pace set by Super Soldier that included a half-mile in 47.34 seconds and six furlongs in 1:11.47. As they moved into the heart of the stretch, 6-5 favorite Sky Flight and Julian Leparoux gained a slight lead outside Super Soldier. Lopez put Lochte on the favorite’s outside flank and the pair dueled through the final furlong with Old Time Hockey and Ronnie Allen Jr. charging along the outside and Rose Brier threatening along the inside.
At the finish, Lochte was able to hold on by a head over Old Time Hockey with Sky Flight another neck farther back and Rose Brier fourth, a length back along the rail.

Star Harbour’s nose hits wire first in Pelican

In the $90,000 Pelican Stakes, Star Harbour and jockey Geovany Garcia took the lead early and
then took advantage of a main track that had favored inside runners most of the day to post a nose
victory over 17-1 shot Helooksthepart.
Trained by Joe Woodard and making his first start since late November, Star Harbor covered six furlongs over a wet strip listed as fast in 1:10.78 and paid $23.60. Helooksthepart, who closed from last, was 2 1/2 lengths in front of favored Risk Factor with Good Lord another head back in fourth.

Double Secret connects at 31-1 in Lightning City

Double Secret finished third, beaten just a length, in her first start on turf in a prep for Saturday’s $96,250 Lightning City Stakes last time out. Double Secret proved that solid effort was no fluke as she opened a long lead into the stretch of the five-furlong turf dash and had plenty left to post a stunning upset.
Double Secret, trained by Adolpho Exposito, returned $63.40 with Augusto Marin aboard. You Bought Her finished second with favored Love Train third.
Double Secret covered the distance over the “good” turf course in 56.64 seconds and earned the winner’s share of $60,000.
